I founded Bird's Eye View in 2000 to apply my expertise with GIS technology towards solving the world's mounting ecological, economic and social problems. With my work, I aim to create a healthier planet for all living things.

Kurt Menke, MA, GISP

Kurt Menke is a GIS Specialist by trade who is a deeply committed conservationist at heart. He was one of the main contributors to the New Mexico Highlands Wildlands Network Vision and has worked extensively with other conservation groups such as, the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, Bordercats Working Group, Grand Canyon Wildlands Council, Wild Farm Alliance, Forest Guardians, Animal Protection of New Mexico, and the Southern Rockies Ecosystem Project.
Mr. Menke is one of the co-founders of the Tijeras Canyon Safe Passage Coalition and currently serves as Co-Chair. He also is currently serving as Vice-President of the New Mexico Geographic Information Council (NMGIC), serves on the Board of Directors for the Grand Canyon Wildlands Council, teaches GIS and Cartography at UNM’s Division of Continuing Education, and UNM's School of Architecture, and is a member of the Society for Conservation GIS.
On the technical side Kurt is well versed in the full line of ESRI products as well as many open source GIS tools such as Minnesota Map Server, GDAL, PostGIS, QGIS, and GRASS. He has been a full time GIS professional for 10 years. Kurt is a self taught programmer versed in Python, PHP, Javascript, HTML, Avenue, and AML. He has also dabbled in MS Visual Basic and Perl and has strong skills in Adobe Photoshop, and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Kurt became certified by the GIS Certification Institute (GISP) in December 2005.
